SUMMARY:Ottoman Genocide of Assyrians During WWI
DESCRIPTION:During World War I, Assyrian communities across the Ottoman Empire and northwestern Persia faced massacres, deportations, and forced displacement that tore apart families and centuries-old ways of life. Known to Assyrians as Seyfo, or “the sword,” this genocide remains one of the least taught chapters of twentieth-century history.\nThis workshop equips middle and high school educators to bring this history into the classroom with confidence and care. You’ll explore the historical context of the genocide, its connections to the concurrent Armenian and Greek genocides, and the resilience of Assyrian communities who preserved their language, faith, and culture in the aftermath. Leave with ready-to-use lesson ideas and primary sources that help students examine how genocide unfolds, why some histories go unrecognized, and why remembrance matters today.\nRegister here.\n
