Lesson 1 focuses on survivor and descendant testimonies, using oral histories, discussion, and reflection to explore the human impact of the Assyrian Genocide, historical memory, and the long-term effects of persecution and displacement. Lesson 2 examines contemporary newspaper coverage from the World War I era, engaging students in primary-source analysis, media literacy, and historical inquiry to investigate how atrocities against Assyrians were documented as they occurred and how evidence of genocide can be identified before the term existed. Together, the lessons deepen students’ understanding of the Assyrian Genocide through both personal narratives and historical documentation while encouraging analysis of genocide, memory, and mass violence.
